Frequently asked questions.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an intervention that is designed to alleviate the stress, reaction, and discomfort associated with traumatic events and memories. It’s been around for a few decades and has a significant amount of research to support the effectiveness of the intervention. We’ve also worked with hundreds of clients and seen first hand the potential for deep, profound, and lasting change.

What kind of training is needed for emdr?

Our clinicians all have extensive training in both EMDR and general counseling. We value ourselves in having highly trained and skilled clinicians and providing premier EMDR and trauma therapy in the Nashville area.

What happens in a session?

Our approach to EMDR and counseling involves an initial assessment session (~50-60 minutes) and then subsequent weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions that are aimed at getting to the root of past trauma. EMDR sessions specifically usually begin with a quick check-in to see how you are and then progress to processing through past trauma.

What are your fees and do you take insurance?

At this time we do not take insurance, however we can provide a receipt for potential out of network reimbursement (please contact your insurance plan carrier to find out what your potential coverage is for outpatient therapy). Sessions are $175.

How long does this take?

EMDR and working through trauma is a generally flexible process and the amount of time it takes depends both on the trauma we’re working through and how much progress someone wants to make. We use the analogy of personal training. Do you want to get in decent shape, great shape, or athlete shape? What’s your starting point with how in shape you are? Are there any injuries of life situations that are getting in the way?

We do our best to start EMDR therapy on your timeline while ensuring emotional safety and support. For a recent trauma this can sometimes be the first session (EMDR Recent Trauma Protocol) or, on average, after a few sessions.
